Choose to: "Let the Sunshine In"

“I used to cover my windows in heavy curtains, never drawn. Now I dance in the sunlight on my hardwood floors.”- Kimberly Novosel

It’s true that sunshine brings forth positivity and is effective in lifting our spirits. Studies have shown countless times that when you spend more time in the sunshine, your body then releases serotonin, which are hormones that help boost your mood.

But, even on cloudy days we all still need to let a little sunshine in.

As you go about your days, while different things are happening around (or to) you, how often do you find yourself actually paying attention to the emotions or actions that you are having or taking?

Unless this is a practiced habit, probably not very much.

Many of us (due to how we are structured) tend to cruise throughout our days, without any awareness to exactly what we are feeling or doing (or how we are reacting) to the different things that have occurred.

Which if you do this, it may then lead you to clinging to those bad feelings (or thoughts) that sparked because of the negative things that did happen.

Compared to; Allowing yourself to move past them, and focus upon the positives that still exist.

I mean think about it, have you ever noticed that if one bad thing occurs, (if not consciously aware) you continue to allow it sit with you throughout the remainder of your day? Which then leads to that ripple affect where more bad things continue to happen.

Everything at that point just seems like a walking dumpster fire that you just can’t put out.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

“If you take a step back from the hardships that have occurred, you allow yourself a breath you didn’t know you were holding.”

With an awareness to that law of attraction factor, you give yourself the ability to take back the control you didn’t realize you had lost in the moment of your fire. When you are consistently sitting with negative emotions or thoughts due to something bad that happened prior, you deprive yourself of feeling whole. (And continue to attract negative situations or things to reoccur.)

When bad things happen, it can seem easier to just react. To simply allow this shadow to become casted upon your mood completely dragging your day down with it. Yet, when you take these moments as opportunities of growth, and bring forth a better sense of awareness, you gain back that control and release that looming darkness that was.

On a cloudy day, our immediate thought is sunshine. So why aren’t you allowing yourself to be that sunshine that you are so desperately craving? When you focus only upon the bad things that happened, you shield yourself to feeling those happy feelings that we all so desperately desire to feel. .

You do not giving yourself a chance to reflect upon the good things that may still exist in your life, in spite of the negative things that may have occurred.

You deprive your ability to overcome. and move past it.

Now this isn’t saying to simply disregard any negative emotions that may come forth. That would also not be a good act to do. What it IS saying is, when you have different emotions -compared to clinging to them- allow yourself to embrace them, then choose to let them go.

Allowing these negative emotions or thoughts to sit and brew all day is not benefitting you or others in any way. So don’t let it.

Take this analogy for example:

“If you capture a butterfly (or one lands on your hand), and choose to enclose it, (closing your hands around it) compared to choosing to study it in all it’s glory. Analyze it, and then allow it to fly away, you suffocate it.”

If you allow those emotions to come, and choose to cling to them throughout your whole day, it will only bring you down with it. You ultimately suffocate yourself and nobody wins.

Compared to; when you acknowledge them as they appear, embrace them as they are, reflect upon them to better understand, then choose to let them go (and move past it), you win.

A better sense of understanding presents itself, and a better sense of relief appears.

Compared to letting it brew; you are choosing to move past it. You are choosing the high road, and allowing this situation to pass. No, you are not disregarding it. You have just chosen a choice that will impact you more positively than any alternative was.

Sometimes you may need to walk away from a situation, (especially if it really hit a trigger for you.). And that is OK to do. We ALL need time to ourselves. (To think, to reflect, to release tension.)

Everyone needs some form of an outlet when these things arise.

But choosing to have a better sense of self control, as well as being consciously aware of the emotions that are happening, (and the reaction you give to it), allows for a better sense of self to develop and leads you down a much brighter path.

That spilled coffee doesn’t need to turn into a terrible day, it instead can be seen as a minor occurrence that happened, during an EXTRAordinary day.

“This too shall pass.”-Abraham Lincoln

It’s true that you may not be able to be happy all the time, but it is your decision to let that sunshine in, or allow those clouds to linger.

In moments like these, you must give yourself an opportunity to re-gain control of who you are in the moment. And choose to step away from the toxicity or negative acts that may follow when things just don’t go your way.

If that means taking a walk, take a break, or simply moving around, do it.

Because clinging to those negative things that occurred or the emotions that followed suite will not benefit you in the long run. It will weigh on you, until you allow yourself to move past it.

“Sometimes choosing love, is the best alternative to any situation that may be.”

Placing yourself back in control, and choosing how you react to different situations as they occur, can honestly do wonders for your mentality and your outside environment as well.

When you choose to work every day, little by little to shift your focus to the more positive things, -or taking the bad things with stride- it can really open doors for you that you didn’t exactly have an awareness to before.

Choosing that alternative route, isn’t always an easy task to do, but it is always possible.

Don’t allow yourself to remain under those clouds all day. See the wonders that exist around you, find the positives, regain that sense of control, and since you DO have a choice, always;

Let that Sunshine In. 🌞

As you live, you learn. As you grow, you can either take what was learned as an opportunity for positive change, or allow it to diminish. That choice is always yours. The possibilities are endless. Choose to be kind, choose to grow.
